Today’s challenge is all about movement outdoors and getting some fresh air. Yes it’s winter. Most of us are dealing with snow, and freezing temperatures but that shouldn’t stop you from using that time to be outside.
Fresh air is something we rarely get in the winter because we rush to get into the vehicle and rush to get back inside the house. (If you live in a warm climate in the winter then get out there!) Some days in winter, it can be too cold to spend more than a couple of minutes but try to use those few minutes to take in the sounds and the fresh air. But on days that it’s not dangerous spend 10-30 minutes going for a good walk. Hear the sounds of the wind, birds and snow crunch beneath your feet. Breathe in and listen to your breath. Winter walks can be more quieting to the mind. Hear nature no matter where you are and post below what type of outdoor “walk” you’re doing today!
If you love winter sports then do some cross country skiing, or snowboard or some snowshoe action. But get moving outside!
Here are some tips for winter walks/workouts:
- Don’t forget to dress in layers appropriate for the temperature. You want to be covered and warm but not so many layers that you are sweating and therefore getting cold.
- Prep your SKIN! Hydrate the skin with moisturizer before heading out so that cold temps and the wind are not further drying out your skin. Use a thicker cream in the winter to handle the extra dry air. We use Body Systems’ Body Butter because it’s thick and rich. It also has healthy essential oils but no additional scent added making it great as a base layer for men and women.
- Don’t forget your lips! Apply a healthy layer of balm without chemicals or petroleum which can cause irritation and further dry out the lips. Of course we use Body Systems Mint Lip Balm which also contains Tea Tree Essential Oil that helps with any current dry lips too!
