This may seem like a crazy idea during the busy Holiday Season, right? But at the beginning of the season is when we look at those areas of our life where we need to focus BEFORE the holiday season gets so crazy that we burn out.
If one hour is too overwhelming to start, then begin with 15 minutes. This week head to bed 15 minutes earlier, then add 15 minutes each week till the end of the year. Let’s focus on good sleep instead of staying up to do more.
Sleep is very important because it’s when the body/brain rebuild cells and recover from the day. It’s also a time when the cells release toxins and it’s shown that the optimal time that the body does all of this is about 11pm-2am. So we want to try to get the body into sleep mode by 10:30pm.
Do you have trouble getting to sleep or staying asleep? I found that starting to relax my body and brain a little earlier when I’m busy and overwhelmed helps when it is time to sleep. Make sure to move throughout the day and exercise. Then do some stretches or yoga to relax the body. I love to take a bath to relax. How does that work? First, the warm water dilates the blood vessels allowing blood flow to slow. And remember to fill that bath with minerals to replenish used nutrients and minerals throughout the day. During stressful and busy times like the holidays, it’s even more important to refill the cells with minerals. Use Body Systems Mineral Spa Soaks that are loaded with magnesium that also calm muscles to aid in sleep.

Turn off screens for 30-60 minutes before sleep time to allow the brain to start relaxing. Print out work articles or start reading a great book that you can’t put down. You’ll look forward to bedtime because the book is so interesting!
Drink some bedtime calming tea and if you need to keep blood sugar up during the night, have a bite of banana or apple. If you body’s blood sugar suffers by becoming too low during the night your body will wake up automatically.
